Super duper extra bonus and final wrap-up

Gold star

Yesterday I posted a review about the Family Tree University Virtual Conference (#FTUVC)  as soon as the conference had ended and while my thoughts were still fresh. I guess I jumped the gun, since I now need to add this update. I’ll explain from the beginning…

There was one drawback to the discussion boards during the VC — if you wanted to save anything that was posted, you had to copy/paste each individual post into another document. I tried a few ways to collate a number of the discussions into one page to make the process easier, but the system never let me open more then 10 posts a a time. Thus the sheer number of posts (at last count there were over 500) made a copy/paste of the entire discussion board unfeasible. I did save bits and pieces here and there, but there was a lot of extra information shared by attendees that I know would be terrific to have had I found the time to copy/paste over the weekend (which I didn’t).

Fast forward to today and I have yet another ‘gold star’ for the conference coordinators: tonight I received an email with a pdf transcript of the discussion board postings. This is a gem in itself. Kudos to the coordinators for thinking of literally everything.

I think I made my point yesterday, but just in case I’ll clarify here: The VC was a terrific experience, and one that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in genealogy, from beginner, to basic family history hobbyist, to pro.  If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Wow, what a great way to finish out! Maybe you can pick out a few of the gems if there are links or bits of wisdom and share them from time to time for those of us who couldn’t attend! :)

Good idea Dana. As I watch the videos I’ll consider things I might be able to post, while respecting FTU copyrights, of course. :)

Oh, definitely! Or even, instead of just directly quoting, you could just talk about something that inspired you and what actions you took from something you learned and results, if any! I love seeing how people think and make sense of stuff, as it usually sparks my own creative process.

I”ll second your opinion. I ‘attended’ also and although I haven’t been able to view everything yet (I plan on doing that this week), what I was able to view and look through (a couple sessions and live chats) were great. My first genealogy conference and look forward to more virtual ones for those of us who can’t get to the live ones.

I think a lot of us are probably in the same boat. Maybe we should continue the conversation in another forum, so folks can post as they continue to pour through the materials. Hmmm I’ll have to think about the best way to do that. Any ideas?

I’m glad the virtual conference was a success. I would like to have participated, but I was out of town. Good post, Lisa!
