Stop ID Theft Now and Save the SSDI

If you have not seen this petition yet please consider reading and signing it. Congress intends to prevent anyone except for very specific vendors access to the Social Security Death Index. This starts with the SSDI, but it doesn’t have to end there. That is why it is so important to take action now.

This post at geneapress.com includes the full press release, along with links to the petition and instructions (there is the small matter of signing up for a Whitehouse.gov account, but don’t let that prevent you from letting your voice be heard).  A technical note: I had trouble signing up for the account using Chrome on my Mac, so I switched to Safari and the process was seamless.

As of this writing there are 753 signatures, with 24,247 more needed by March 8, 2012. Now is the time to act. Please share this!
